lots of snow = lots of stink

Snow is beautiful. The landscape is peaceful and serene as I gaze out from my cozy home. There is a severe downside though. The roads become dangerous. People don’t leave home or if they do it’s only to run to the store to gather the bare necessities. It also means that garbage pickup is either delayed or cancelled. We are going on two weeks with no garbage pickup. We ran out of room in our trash bin last weekend and all of our cans are full. Since we’ve had the heat up, it has also been smelly. We’d put it outside but I don’t want dogs or raccoons dragging my leftover chinese food all over the carport. Do we have raccoons here? Yes. We’ve seen them.

Garbage pickup is scheduled for Saturday. Please Lord let them come get our trash.

General update

I’ve been neglecting this site lately because I’ve been updating Nintendo Widow.

A couple of big things have happened in the last week. First of all, it snowed on Wednesday and on Saturday. I still had to go to school but it wasn’t too bad. I’m in love with snow as long as I don’t have to drive in it. In my opinion, we’ve gotten enough to just make it a little prettier around here.

The second thing is that my best friend Diana just got engaged. Yay! She and her boyfriend have been together for two years and I’m very happy for both of them. I’m also excited because her fiance is my brother’s best friend.

More updates to come. Stay tuned.

ahhh..home at last

We successfully moved into our new place this weekend. Compared to our last two moves, which were cross-country, this one was relatively painless. We only needed the rental truck for one day and had all of our big stuff unloaded by 6pm on Saturday. Yesterday, we organized everything and introduced the cats to their new home. They adjusted much faster than expected.

Last night, I cooked supper and then we went downtown for a party at my classmate’s condo. He and his wife have a great view of the Space Needle, so at midnight everyone went out on the balcony and enjoyed the fireworks.

Today, I put up some curtains and got organized for classes tomorrow. I had a great break: skiing, visiting friends, and moving into a really cool new place. I hope my luck continues throughout the year.

addendum

Another reason I won’t miss our old apartment? On Thursday, we deduced that our keys were not working in our driver’s door because someone had jammed something in there in an attempt to break in. Because suddenly neither one of our keys open that door and there is a strange mark that looks like a screwdriver was forced into the lock, we are pretty sure someone wanted to break into our car. Since our car is parked at home 90% of the time, this most likely happened at our complex. We can still open the door with our car remote or by opening our passenger door, but still, this is incredibly annoying.
