I’m taking the GMAT again one week from Friday. I guess I’m ready. I feel much more confident about it than I did the first time I took it. I hope this makes me feel better on test day. I have a study buddy who is good at explaining the difficult math problems to me. The math is not hard; setting up the equation and answering the right part of the question is. Example: what is half of the average of blah-dee-blah. I usually find the average and forget the “half” part. And yes, they do have the wrong answer listed in the choices.
This is the kind of test that can make smart people feel dumb. One of my friends is getting a PhD in evolutionary genetics. When I told him I was studying for the GMAT, he gave me some study tips. Apparently, even geniuses have a strategy for conquering these exams.
On the bright side, Mike and Alba are coming to visit us this weekend. I can’t wait. I really miss them! They were our weekend hangout buddies. Mike and Danny would BS about the computer and Alba and I would drink red wine and chat. It was a very cool, fun, easy way to spend a few hours. Now I get a whole weekend of wine drinking…oh, yeah, and some sightseeing too.
Chapter 3: chips+ pizza+diet dr. pepper+milk+chocolate = bloating and total lack of energy.
Yeah, I know it’s exactly what you want to read about as you sit down with your morning cup of coffee.
Last week was a lot of fun. Danny and I got to be tourists and show his family around town. This week however, we are continuing the dogged pursuit of what we do best: nothing.
We just finished watching season one of Arrested Development. It is freakin. funny. y’all. Go rent it.
I talked to my Dad after work today. He told me that it was hot but that it had rained just enough lately to keep the humidity high. Geez, way to make me really miss home. I am going home to Austin soon though. I got a really cheap plane ticket and I will be there to enjoy the heat, margaritas, mexican food, and snarky jokes for three days with my family and friends. Oh, and I plan to get in at least one trip to a swimmin’ hole too.
Other than that, not much else is going on. My mom and brother are in Quebec this week for vacation while Lisa, Matt, Michelle, Babs and Dipu are enjoying the sights and cool air on their Alaskan cruise.
Now that’s what I’m talking aboot!
We just got home from SF and we are so full. I met Danny and his family after work and then we had Indian food for dinner. Indian food swells in your belly to twice its normal size; like a sponge.
Now I’m home and the cats are milling about me like I’m an injured wildebeast and they want to pounce upon my bloated carcass. Ewww…well, maybe they just want to pounce.
Despite the fact that I only got about 4.5 hours of sleep last night and I still have two more days of work this week, I’m feeling really upbeat. It is so nice to have guests and show them around. Danny is doing most of the showing but, as he says, it’s nice to show them a little part of our new life in California….
….although we’ll ALWAYS be Texans HOOEY YEEHAW HOOKEM’ FIGHT TEXAS FIGHT!
I don’t really have that much to tell. Let’s go down the list quickly then, shall we?
1. Mom loved her surprise birthday party. I was sad that I couldn’t be there, but she did like the bouquet of flowers I sent to her, not to mention the gobs of delicious food her friends prepared for her.
2. Danny’s mom and younger brother are visiting us this week. It has been fun and really busy. Since Saturday, we’ve been to the beach in half moon bay, alameda, and downtown Oakland. Danny is taking W-F off to take them sightseeing.
I know about the website dedicated to ugly bridesmaid dresses, but I did not know about the site dedicated to ugly outfits worn by celebrities. Ahem…enjoy.
I’m afraid I’m one step away from creating fansites for Veronica Mars and Battlestar Galactica. Apparently, I’m not the only one.
For those of you who are as obsessed as I am with this year’s crop of quality cable and network programming, check out the Tubey awards. VM and BSG are cleaning up.

Biggest WTF moment
Best Badass of the season

Most Appalling Reality show star
Most Ludicrous Plotline
Best Performance by an Inanimate Object
1:00pm
Argh…..TWoP hasn’t had any updates today and I’m quite frustrated. The new episode of BSG comes on tomorrow night and they haven’t even recapped last week’s epi. Did the recappers’ paychecks get lost in the mail? What gives?
At least BSG and Reno 911 are airing new episodes right now. If I had to wait until late September to get a dose of all of my favorite shows (and trust me, there are many) I would die. I would shrivel up into dry, brittle, girl-jerky and my cats would chew away at my hide until they reached the gooey center. Hee hee…that’s gross.
1:10pm
AGGG! I just managed to somehow stab the side of my knee with the corner of my desk. As I was sitting down, I leaned forward a little too much and jabbed the corner of the cabinet on the left side of my desk right into the fleshy part of my knee. You know; the part on either side of your kneecap. Owwwch…that’s gonna leave a mark. Maybe I need to get some kneepads for work. But then again, that might give people the wrong impression. No, I do not want that. Perhaps I could couple them with a stylish helmet of some sort? That would express my single desire of self-preservation: a helmeted, kneepad-clad employee.
2:15pm
My knee has stopped throbbing. I also went to lunch. Now this is cracking me up: Engrish Star Wars.
2:40
I’m yawny McYawns-a-lot. Sheesh, is it nap time yet? Crap. My hot tea is of the decaffeinated variety. Although I drink decaf coffee, an afternoon cup of regular tea both soothes me and perks me up. Damn you Mint Medley! Is this a conspiracy against me?
3:40
Yay, the new BSG recap is up. This will keep me entertained for a while.

Aside from being poked and prodded at 7:30 yesterday morning, I got stabbed. Okay, I’m being dramatic. I got a tetanus shot and let me tell you it’s the gift that keeps on givin’. My left arm is sore and there is a hard lump where the needle went in. I guess it isn’t any worse than soreness after a tough upper body workout but the swelling is not from toned muscles. No, it’s from a disease. Fun times.
The best and worst quote of the day:
Tasteless alert!
On the French airliner crash yesterday:
Got hit by lightning, eh? Apparently even God, Himself, dislikes the French.
Nah, he thought they were Scout leaders but corrected himself at the last minute.
Didnt the plane split in half. Why are they jumping out the door. Go out the big hole in the middle.
Probably because they didn’t want to run TOWARDS the fire in the back of the plane.

Babs tagged me for this poll. I think it’s cool, but I realized that I really don’t search for new music anymore. The last songs I downloaded were ones I heard during snippets of Live 8 coverage and while browsing for movies at blockbuster. I LIKE the songs, but I certainly didn’t find them in any cool, underground manner. They were served to me like cheese samples at Costco. I’m so suburban. *sigh*
List ten songs that you are currently digging … it doesn’t matter what genre they are from, whether they have words, or even if they’re no good, but they must be songs you’re really enjoying right now. Post these instructions, the artists, and the ten songs in your blog. Then tag five other people to see what they’re listening to.
Keane - Somewhere Only We Know
Astrud Gilberto - Fly Me to the Moon
Blur - coffee and tv
Ween - Voodoo Lady
Ween - Can’t Put My Finger On It
Snow Patrol - How to Be Dead
Snow Patrol - Chocolate
The Killers - Somebody Told Me
Modest Mouse - Float On
Franz Ferdinand - Take Me Out
Despite how much I may bitch and moan about my lack of new music knowledge, I do have access to the soon-to-be-released album by Austin’s very own Black Water Gospel. My brother Daniel plays bass for them. Their debut album will go on sale after their release party at Jovita’s on September 10th.
Ok, now my shameless plug has ended, you can go back to your own cool, hipper-than-hip music.
Oh yeah, eenie meenie miney mo: Amy, Danny, and Chris (for now).

That’s relax. Rerax is just more fun to say.
Sorry for the lack up updated information. Here’s what you’ve missed:
Details from my yearly physical
My thoughts on Batman Begins
How many nights in a row I can eat homemade fettucini alfredo and not get tired of it
My realization that when Danny works late, I sit at home and drink wine, so much wine in fact that by the time he gets home from his 12 hour workday, I’m a red lip-stained giggling mess
Finding out that I didn’t get a job I interviewed for and end up being really cool with that outcome
Psyching myself up enough to start studying for the GMAT again
My anxiety dreams about doing a routine in marching band and realizing that I don’t know the routine at all…..then faking the rest and hoping nobody notices
