It is getting cold here. So much so that Danny and I went to the mall for sweater shopping last night. What we learned: nice sweaters are expensive. Cheap ones are crap. What do we do? We have a trip planned to visit Burlington Coat Factory and Kohls very soon.
Yesterday, someone at work commented on my accent. No one has really done this since I moved here. It wasn’t a big deal, but when I told him I was from Texas, he said “I never would have guessed that.” Hmmm…I wasn’t pissed, but I like to think that I don’t really have an accent. Silly me, I guess it is noticeable.
Here’s the short list of what I took Mom and Daniel to do last weekend:
dinner at fiesta del mar
cycling at stanford
left bank french restaurant for dinner
crepes for breakfast
british pub for lunch
drove along hwy 1 to pigeon point lighthouse and half moon bay
Obester winery at half moon bay
conservatory of flowers at golden gate park
japantown
maritime cafe for dinner
cafe barrone for coffee
DVDs: watched elf and the cooler
pancake breakfast
musical instrument store
golden gate bridge
ferry building
visited my office
chinatown
north beach
tommaso’s for pizza
cafe greco for tiramisu and coffee
jitney’s and enrico’s for drinks and jazz
french toast for breakfast at Bistro Vida
As you can see, we were busy little bees. Despite the mad pace of their trip, we still had plenty of time to visit while driving and during meals. Mom took good care of us and fed us very well. Danny couldn’t go to every place with us, but he was good about taking charge when the other three of us were waffling on where to go next. I’m really glad he spent so much time sight-seeing with us. I don’t know what my favorite part of the trip was, but going over the Golden Gate bridge and then looking at the view of the city from the north coast was very cool.
We were lucky that the weather cooperated the entire time. I was a little disappointed that we didn’t see any fog, but I’m sure there’s plenty of time for that. We did take a few pictures, most of which you can see here.
One truly weird incident occurred on Thursday morning at McDonald’s. Daniel, Danny, and I stopped in there to get some breakfast before going to pick up mom at the airport. The place was mobbed since it was one of the few businesses open on Thanksgiving Day. We got our food and had just started to eat when we hear some guy yelling that he wanted to talk to the manager. The manager walked over to the man who looked like an average guy - not crazy or unkempt. The guy then yelled at the manager telling him that his employees kicked him in the balls. Whaaaatt? We all paused for a second. The manager got this surprised look on his face. The guy then said that the employees threatened to kick him in the balls between 9:40 and 10:30 that morning. He then told the manager “you are sick.” I would have started laughing except I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. What was this guy saying? That there is a sanctioned ball-kicking hour between 9:30 and 10:30am? Is this a regular thing or is it for special occasions and holidays? The manager realized the guy was nuts and told him to just drink his coffee. The guy yelled for a few more seconds and then went off to sulk over the ball threat. We left.
